I was sitting in the library doing homework when the bell rang, indicating that lunch had ended. I sighed, taking my dark brown hair out of the hair tie it was in, before packing my German book into my bag. I didn’t notice that a piece of paper had fallen out of it – a letter to my crush, Marcus. I had liked him since he started at our school last year and sat in front of me in English, which is why it was my favorite class. Not that I’d ever talk to him, though.

Rushing into class, I made it just before the teacher started taking attendance. “Abbing Sophia?” “Here!” I called out, zoning out relatively fast after attendance, even though I attempted to stay awake. My German teacher is just the absolute worst. When I went to take out my book, it dawned on me that I had lost the letter. Then I remembered that Marcus had solitary study right now, which meant he was in the library. All of a sudden, I felt very ill. “Miss, may I go to the bathroom?” I asked, feeling the color rush from my face. “Sure, just hurry back, Sophia.”

Nodding, I ran out the door, heading straight to the library. I saw Marcus's blond hair from afar, and then my eyes fell onto the note in his hand. Shit. Then I noticed the girl standing next to him, laughing and tucking her hair behind her ear. It was Sam. I walked past them, and from what I could piece together from their conversation, he thought the letter was from her. He liked her back. It felt like someone had smashed my heart against the wall and jumped around on it until it shattered for good.
