Cove
The spark of my lighter echoes through the canyon.
My buddy doesn’t talk much. It’s what I like about him. Strong silent type. He comes along for security. Insurance, if you will.
Bandits roam these parts too freely if you ask me.
I draw the deepest pull I can from my cigar, and let it out with a whoosh.
Buddy doesn’t say anything.
We ain’t really up here for no particular reason. Just keeping patrol in case anything unsavoury appears. I guess that’s your main duty as sheriff.
Well. Nothing to see here either. Time to call it a day and wrap it up.
A sharp twang pings from across the rocks, thumping something into my steed. The horse drops to the ground, dazed by—
Tranquilliser. Gee. That’s a lot of walking for me and Buddy.
At least we’ll get some action before dinner tonight.
Buddy’s already long gone, pursuing the bandits on foot. I draw the sniper and flip open the scope with a click.
I’ll cover Buddy from here.
Not really in the running mood today.
