Someone taps their pencil repeatedly
The steam rises.
Someone smacks their gum a little too loud.
The steam rises.
My well-intentioned teacher speaks to someone across the room, and I can hear it from here.
The steam rises.
Every little noise irritates me
But if the steam comes out of my ears
I’ll never hear the end of it
But still, the steam rises
And I don’t have a say.
