Moonlight Melody
I peered out the window as both the breeze and fan cooled me. The moon’s eyes shone and glowed but the stars hid behind the masked clouds like shy kids hiding behind their parents. A sip of apple juice refreshed me.
“You should at least try and fall asleep. Your body needs rest.” Liana stood up from the creaky bed.
I sucked on the straw and took the last sip. It was a beautiful night, almost perfect if it weren’t for my injuries.
“I’ll go to bed soon.” I promised her.
“Jen.” She squinted as she furrowed her brows.
“I swear I will. Right after I finish my uh…my third juice box!” I gave Liana a hesitant smile, as I grabbed another one off of my drawer.
She scanned me with her glistening eyes, looking past my bandaged arm and weird hospital gown. As if she were looking into my soul.
“Come on, lie down.” Liana said in a reassuring yet soft voice. She sat on the edge of my hard and unpleasant bed and patted it.
I followed her and lied on my bed as it creaked and squeaked.
She looked at me again with those marine, enchanting eyes and started humming a sweet melody.
I closed my eyes and let my heart relax to the rhythm of her voice, forgetting about all my worries for a second.
“Goodnight, Jen.” She kissed me on the forehead, making my face red-hot.
“Thanks. For taking care of me I mean.”
She smiled and tucked my ginger hair behind my ear.
