POEM STARTER
You are convinced you can see mysterious figures lurking in the shadows. Write a poem about them.
Choose a specific style of poetry that would be suitable for this theme.
Why Can’t You See Them?
Through the eyes of others, I wonder what they see.
I’m beginning to think I am different because my eyes have seen what lies beneath.
They appear in my window late at night
Their scorching glare bring my breath to light.
I can see them in the distance, standing still.
It’s as if they want me to watch until I know they are real.
It was late last night, I knew it was not a dream.
I lay asleep on my couch as the tv screen beams.
The power is cut and I can’t quite breath.
I know I am now surrounded by the presence for what lies beneath.
*Whispers whispering*
*Whispers whispering*
*Whispers whispering*
*Silence*
My eyes peek slightly at the edge of the couch..
There are cold feet covered in grime and dirt and-
Blood.
My heart leaps out of my mouth carrying the last breath that I breathed out.
There is someone standing there that smells like a burning house.
There isn’t much I can say after last night.
I made the brave decision to look with my fists out.
My fists went through the air before my lids began to open.
I swallow the vomit of fear.
Nobody, not a single someone was there.
