STORY STARTER
In a world where the ocean is considered a terrifying, prohibited place, describe your character’s first experience of going in the sea.
Why do they have to, and how do they feel about it?
Uncharted Waters
It’s dark. Almost black.
Beautiful.
I can’t see the bottom. It’s not like the sky where you can see far up and clearly.
It’s quite the opposite, you look down and see nothing.
Waves roll onto the sand, as if devouring.
But each time the waves get pulled back (by what, I am unsure) the sand seems unharmed. The waves leave little gifts on the sand. Shells and pretty rocks.
How could something so dangerous, leave behind such precious treasures?
The water makes a soft crash when it meets with the surface. The sound it makes is peaceful. Like something you would hear in a gentle dream.
I’ve been told of terrifying stories out at sea. People lost and never again found. The darkness swallowed them up.
Strong ships taken under and crushed, just as easy as it would be for me to crush a shell in the palm of my hand.
But what a sweet sound it makes when it greets the sand.
I feel the depths calling to me.
I hear the darkness crying out.
Why has this wonder been kept so restricted?
I must listen to it, I will learn it’s secrets.
