The evening began slowly. Both men nervously adjusted their collars and fiddled with their water glasses. The waiter tactfully kept his distance, allowing them the time to get used to each other and their surroundings before asking for their orders. Carefully, the men read through the menu, overthinking everything. If he ordered extravagantly, each wondered, would the other judge him for it? If he made his choice frugally instead, how would that make him seem to his date?
