Emotion

Emotions.

They flow like an ocean.

They move, like the sea.

Never ending, always changing. Flowing in and fading away, stretching as far as the eye can see.

Crashing, beating, and drowning, they pull you in without escape. As the water fills your ears and you’re pushed down by the waves.

You can’t hear and you can’t see, all you feel is the tide pulling you by the waist. Pulling you deeper, to the darkest, most hidden caves. Showing the memories you just can’t seem to erase.

But then you see a light.

The shore.

Lungs burning, you swim to the top. Gasping for air and wiping the salt from your eyes, you notice the waves seem to have stopped.

It’s calm here you discover, trudging through the water and onto the sand. Your visions are clear now, not muddled. It’s different here on land.

Your feet are sturdy here, strong. You gaze upon the water, It’s peaceful now. Like a backyard pond.

The sun shines on the ripples, coming from behind the clouds. The world seems so quiet. Unlike before, so overwhelmingly loud.

The salty breeze blows through your hair, as you give the sea one last, long, stare.

With a breath, you turn away. No longer will you look at this sea. No longer will you drown in this ocean of emotion.

No. This has been enough.

I walk to the shore.

I am free.
