Sick Day

Never, in a million years, would he have excepted this. He had spent around 4 Earth years scouring the timeline for anything that could cause this, and there it was.

One schoolgirl was forced to go to school despite being ill. A single student; yet now..

K glanced out of the window, viewing the ruined city with grieving eyes. Buildings toppled in an attempt to stop or slow the disease. Whole cities turned to rubble by nuclear weapons, and even that didn’t stop enough of it. It was antibiotic resistant, and nearly perfectly tailored to attack humans.

He knew, of course, it wouldn’t matter to him. He could always go back and fix it. And, if not, he could rebuild society.

“Amy, you should still go to school.”

The girl sniffled. Her face was pale, and eyes tired. She was clearly ill.

“I don’t wanna, dad..”

“It looks like it’s only a cold, dear. I can’t keep you home for a reason as simple as that.”

“What’s going on, K, dear?” his wife called from the kitchen.

“Amy’s got a cold,” he replied, turning his head toward the voice, “do you think she should go to school?”

“It’s up to you.”

He turned back to Amy.

“You’ve got to go, dear.”

The girl looked annoyed and sad, but trudged to the hallway and got her bags. On her way to school, she saw a butterfly get snatched by a bird.

How symbolic.
