WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a dual point-of-view scene in which the right part of the brain and the left are disagreeing about a topic.
Think about the characteristics associated with each side.
Calathen’s Head
The waves crashed mightily against the rocks far below. The seagulls cried their mournful songs as they swooped overhead. But these were not nearly as loud as the thundering in his head.
“Of all the choices you could have made, this is the worst.”
“I was trying to let her live her own life. Isn’t that a noble thing?” Part of him thought. Then the other interjected.
“Noble? Allowing her to marry that idiot is anything but noble.”
“How do you know she doesn’t want to marry him?”
“Because he is a worthless moron that’s why!” “Stop thinking like a politician and start thinking logically. You can’t say that she doesn’t want to, because YOU, happen to not like him. Calathens boots began making a divot in the ground. The war raging in his head would not soon be over.
“But, what do I do? Can I do anything?”
“Let her go, it will only bring you pain to hold on any longer.”
“I can’t!”
“What do you mean you can’t?”
“I mean I won’t!”
“Oh, well now, that’s different.” Calathen glared at the ground, clearly annoyed with himself.
“Ugh, fine. How about you just talk to her? If you want to do something you have to start at the root of the problem.”
“She’s not a problem! She’s…” he stoped in his tracks.
“Your right! That’s my last option, I’ll just talk to her!” But as soon as the thought finished his feet felt like lead. His heart beated faster than he wanted to admit. But as the clouds started rolling in he knew it was now or never. “If I take this first step, I won’t be able to turn back. This won’t be easy.”
“When has anything ever been easy?” He chuckled to himself.
