Six Lonely Souls

I look up above

And what I see is a blinding light

Whites and grays mixed with pain

And unforgiving incompleteness

Who has come

And who has not returned?

Will I return?

Has this daring challenge cost me?

My family?

My friends?

I’ve climbed and fallen

Will I get up next time?

Or will I become one of the lost souls

Whispering to me

“Get out of here.”

I’ve seen leftovers of the sadness and doubt

Scattered here and there

The count now is five

Five lonely souls

Maybe I will join them someday

Get lost in the light above me
