Rainy Nights

There was the sound of rain pounding down on the metal roof of the trailer Emilee and her family lived in. It was nearly impossible to see anything outside of the window. The lights flickered on and off as if teasing the family. They had gotten the hurricane warning a bit to late, and they didn’t want to risk driving anywhere. So they sat anywhere in the trailer really. Emilee’s brother had been sleeping for the past hour or so. Her mother was cleaning all of the countertops, the cabinets, the dishes, anything. Emilee herself was sitting in the corner of the cold trailer surrounded by blankets and pillows looking out the window next to her. Outside off in the distance, she could have sworn she saw a figure holding an umbrella. ‘Why would anyone be outside in this weather?’ She thought to herself. She looked away for just a moment, and when she looked back, the silhouette had disappeared leaving it’s umbrella. Emilee pulled the blankets a bit closer to her feeling something. She was confused. How had the person or thing moved so quickly? She was also scared, for some odd reason. Nonetheless she got up to go find her brother or mother. She didn’t care which one she found first. Emilee just wanted to be near someone. She ended up walking towards where her brother had been sleeping. However she didn’t find him there, just his blanket. She heard footsteps and went to look for her mother. Her brother had most likely went to go get something from the kitchen. The rain was getting even louder. When Emilee had gotten to the kitchen, she found no one there. Her brother wasn’t there. Neither was her mother, although it was clear she had been there. The dishes were laying on a towel to dry, and the washer was open. Emilee shrugged it off and went back to her bunk in the corner of the trailer. She didn’t know what she was going to do though. She just wanted to be somewhere safe. When she got to the bunk and sat in the mess of pillows, she heard footsteps once more. Most likely her mother coming. Those footsteps grew closer and closer until the small divider between Emilee’s bunk and the rest of the trailer slid open. Emilee got up to greet her mother, but she was not met with the face of her mother. She was met with a figure that had a skull for a head. It was wearing a trench coat that rattled whenever the thing moved. The weird figure had a butterfly with wings the color of a gem on it’s hand. It stared direct at Emilee and began to move forward. She screamed.
