Leaving
Write about a character leaving something, or someone, they love.
Just one moment more.
It seems like just yesterday you held me in your arms. I felt protected from all the worlds harms. You showed me how to tie my shoes, ride a bike, and how to read. You were there when life was hard, you were a shoulder when I needed to cry. I looked to you as my inspiration, your advice lead me through the decisions of life.
It’s hard for me to watch you lie here, so weak and frail. The sight of the strong; confident man I knew, now lying here defeated by time is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.
The doctor just came in, only moments are left of our time together. When I was young I thought our moments would last forever. If only I could wind the clock back and live the memories once more. The thought of walking through this life without you is suffocating.
Your breaths are growing ragged and I know the time is near. I just can’t say goodbye to you daddy, I love you too dear. You taught me to be strong, and I must be there for you now. I know that you need me by your side as you prepare for a journey from which none of us can hide.
So I take a deep breath and hold your hand in mine, I kiss you on the cheek because I know that it’s time. You take your last breath and my heart starts to break, but I stay strong for your sake. Goodbye daddy I love you so, don’t worry about me I’ll be fine, I had the greatest teacher that the world had ever known.
