Zombie
As far as zombies go, Fred was ugly. He had no luck hooking up with other zombie girls that even the homely looking ones would hold out for something better. He lived his solitary life from home to work and from work to home.
No friends, no family, no love, just him and his logic puzzles.
Who needs friends. Logic and numbers is all I need. He used to tell himself as he scratched in sudoku numbers with his well worn pencil.
This evening he had stayed working longer than he had wanted to. Some brainless zombie from accounting had double counted some inventory and created a mess for him to track down and fix.
Halloween was not the night for him to be out in. Fred feared Halloween night more than anything else in the world. His parents had been viciously murdered by a group of pre-zombies on Halloween night.
It happened one night when they were sauntering back home from getting ice cream. His parents wanted to stay home and go to bed but Fred had insisted on them going out for ice cream.
As Fred walked past the cemetery gate he heard the rustling of leaves, quick scampering of feet then a sudden sharp pain on the back of his head. Everything faded to black as his body hit the ground with a thud.
“That was so gross! Quick, let’s check his pockets for something useful.”
