Fool

Pencil scratching on paper,

short little strokes,

whispering secrets to no one,

writing words to never be spoke.

She loves you, you damn fool.

She loves you but doesn’t know what to do,

so she keeps loving you,

as much as she tries not to.

Pencil scratching on paper,

scribble, scrape, scratch,

She writes about you

and the life the two of you could have,

wishes of the day you’ll smarten up,

give her the love you damn well know she deserves to have.

Don’t you know she’d treat you like treasure?

Oh, you do, you do, you damn fool.

You know damn well how she loves you,

and you keep her around

when you go ‘round loving others,

you have her watch you love them the way that only you do.

She dies a little more with each day,

scribbling poems and letters

to you

only to be stashed away.

She watches you love the way only you do,

and she dies a little each day,

knowing she’ll never know why

you won’t love her the same way.

Pencil scratching on paper,

letters to you

only to be stashed away.

Pencil scratching on paper.
