POEM STARTER
Write a poem about a physical journey that you have been on.
Explore the tangible aspects of a journey you have been on, and how these physical characteristics may have impacted mental and spiritual aspects of the journey too.
Wind In The Window
Excitement churning as we pack into the car
Wondering and imaging. Will it be far?
My parents hurrying around. Shoving and jamming the car to the brim .
Fighting for space as my siblings slide near.
Bickering and jabbing but knowing I am loved
Settling in to the rythmatic sound of the tires as the rub
The hum of the motor the faint smell of gasoline
Images appearing in my head. Streams, lakes mountains of green.
Window rolled down and my hand in the cool air
Watching the clouds as they play charades up there
Dragons , hearts , people in the clouds
My eyes ever searching as the magic abounds
The fresh air pulling me along by its side
My hand slowly moving in a up and down slide
Feeling as if I can lift off from the ground
if only I could fly I would know no bounds
The miles roll by , the morning turns to day
Landmarks and cities, In my own private world I stay
Content with the simple , the air and the sky
A child with no limitations , fears or afraid to die
As the car is parked and our belongings are unpacked
I am hesitant to leave. Not wanting my pretend world cracked
Seeing the river that awaits our fishing poles
Any hesitation in my body now slows
As we head out to trek down the river
I look back at the car and know the wind memory won’t wither
The wind in the window is feeling you can always get
It’s the anticipation of a journey not taken yet
