If Only Dreams Came True
My feet carried me as fast as they could. I was running out of breath the faster I ran. Sweat was pouring down my face. I looked at my watch. It was 6:23pm.
“Crap.” I spoke breathlessly.
I increased my speed, knowing that I was 23 minutes late.
6:27pm
I had arrived. All I had to do was find my girlfriend. My eyes searched the park. I looked near the fountains, on the benches, even in an ice cream shop. But she was nowhere to be found. I grabbed my phone from my pocket in a hurry and dialed her.
The phone rang a couple times before she picked up.
“Hey, babe.” I said.
“Hi, Wes. Where have you been for the past 30 minutes?” She asked.
“I- I’m sorry, I totally fucked up. I just arrived at the park, where are you?”
“I’m at the park.”
“...Wha? But I looked everywhere for you and couldn’t find you.”
“Look harder. I’m near the big LED fountain.”
“Ok. Near the big LED f-“ I paused. “Wait a minute.”
“What?”
“There are no big LED fountains here...”
“Are you sure we’re at the same park.” She asked.
“No, I’m not. Which one are you at?”
“The New Park.”
“Crap. I’m at the Saint Park. I’ll be at the New Park in a minute.”
“Ok see you.”
“Bye.” I hung up and started running.
Things were definitely not going well.
A couple minutes later and I had arrived at The New Park. I was drenched in sweat and my hair was messed up from the wind. My eyes scanned the area and there she was, my soon to be fiancé.
“Hey, Hannah! Over here!” I ran up to her where she was sitting on the edge of the fountain with her strawberry blond hair covering her face.
I took out the navy blue box with the ring inside and got on my knee.
“Hannah, will you marry me?” I took her hand in mine. The wind blew her hair to the side but-
“Do I know you?” It wasn’t Hannah.
“Oh, sorry. Wrong pers-“
“W-Wes?” I looked back where Hannah stood, in shock. “I-I thought you loved me.” Her voice trembled and beads of tears fell down her face. I stood up and the stranger that I had just “proposed” to moved away from us.
“H-Hannah I can explain-“
“Cheater! How could you?” She cried.
“This is all a misunderstanding. I thought she was you.”
“We were together for 4 years and you cheated on me just like that! Don’t ever talk to me again.” She stomped away.
“Hannah, please!”
It was too late. She was gone now.
I dropped on my knees, shaking. I stared at the navy box, with my eyes watering up.
I thought this would be the best day of my life...turns out I was wrong.
I slowly opened the box and inside was the gold ring I was going to give her. I got up on my feet and stood right in front of the glowing fountain. I caressed the diamond on the gold ring and shed a tear.
“If only dreams came true...” I tossed the ring into the water and stared at the setting sun.
Bonus lol:
“Um, are you ok?”
“Don’t talk to me, I’m sad right now.” I replied.
“But I’m you’re fiancé..”
“I told you already, it was an accident! I meant to propose to my girlfriend, not a stranger! Waahhhh!”
“But I can still be your fiancé, right?”
“No! Sob. Sniff.”
