Fallen Angel

The earth had lay undisturbed for over a thousand years in Baybeck Acre, no sign of the ongoing conflicts had reached this stretch of land. That all changed when she arrived. The few people that still lived there had no idea the importance of what was about to happen. They were grains of sand being swept here and there in the desert of fate. Chance had presented the world with a lifeline... It began as a bright blue glow in the sky then the most magnificent array of blue hues swirled, concentrated at the centre of the glow. Before you could process what was taking place the swirls expanded outward and a window into the heavens had been created and from it something had begun to fall.

It was too difficult what or who was falling but the descent was rapid and showed no sign of slowing down. By this point the blue glow in the sky had been replaced with an ominous grey and it was as if the gods had draped the sky as to not witness what was to happen next. The figure was falling at an ever increasing speed and in the blink of an eye had crashed into the formerly undisturbed land.

A gigantic crater had been created at the point of impact with the earth around being thrown hundreds of feet into the air before landing in scattered piles around the area. The once peaceful lands of Baybeck were about to become the centre of all intrigue and all eyes were to be set on its land.

Mere moments after the figure landed it was clear that it was not of this world. Only one of the townsfolk had the courage to wander over to the site as everyone else cowered in fear and waited for the dust to settle. The young man who had, perched between two of the larger piles of earth and peered into the crater being mindful as to not alert the creature of his presence. The figure awoke slowly and let out a cry when the realisation that they were in an unfamiliar land hit, there was as much pain as there was confusion in the sound and the reverberations permeated through the crater and into the dirt piles around, dislodging some and landing on the young man who let out an audible gasp in shock. At the instant the gasp left his mouth the creature was made aware of his position and then as if by magic appeared to him as a beautiful and mystifying woman. She had all the resemblance of an angel except she had piercing green eyes in which you could swear a billion constellations radiated their wisdom and the most illustrious hair which shimmered like fire. She was covered head to toe in what appeared to be the finest silken tunic with leather boots crafted with ornate markings and symbols around the heel.

She was perplexed by her new surroundings, raising her arms to the sky in contempt shouting and screaming in an indistinguishable tongue. At the sight of this the young man slid into the crater and approached the woman. She in response took a step back for every step he took toward. The young man wiped the dirt from his dark, straw-like hair and signalled her to remain calm by holding his hand up and taking slow strides...

What happened next took them both by surprise as the sound of a fleet of machinery broke the silence and shook the very earth beneath them... From beyond the crater a great cloud of ash and smoke appeared to be rising and getting closer and closer to the town. It would be foolish to assume that the glow in the sky was only visible to the townspeople, it had disturbed the very peace that made this town appear so innocent. By now the militia had been alerted of the occurrence and were getting ever closer to the site of impact. The militants were ruthless, any sign of rebellion would immediately result in a town wide punishment. There were stories of their hideous acts of violence from the town over the peak of the mountain. How an old man had questioned their governance and although he made efforts to keep it as polite and careful as possible, the mere possibility that he would suggest a problem in their tactics ended up with his entire family being forced into the nearest labour camp while he was charged to lash them with a whip. And if he was not to whip them, he was subjected to torture of in humane scale.

It was safe to say that they were coming for the angel or whatever they thought was within the crater. In a moment of panic and terror the young man grabbed the angel by the arm and ran with her out of the crater towards his home.

“We have no time to lose, my name is Atem” he spoke sharply and with purpose.

“My name is Syere where are you taking me!” she replied in alarm.

“I have to get you out of here you have no idea what could happen if we are caught by these monsters, the things they could do... the things they’ve done”

“I will not run!” She screamed as they continued on towards a dithered shack in the field close by. As she looked over her shoulder the smoke was growing closer yet she was adamant to stay in wait. Atem pulled harder and tried to explain the enormity of the situation.

“This land has been peaceful for over a thousand years yet as soon as you show up it all changes, we’ve had meteors fall before and never had any interference but for some reason as soon as you show up the full force of the militia shows up we are not safe here anymore do you understand!”

By not he had grown frustrated with the angel but kept hold of her hand tight. They reached the little shack in the field. It was a small worn down house which had seen better days but within the cracks in the walls there were secrets and pain. Atem scarpered around rummaging for food, stuffing whatever he could find into his shoulder bag before turning to Syere.

“You have to trust me, I will get us both to safety but only if you let me help you”

“Well it doesn’t seem like I have much of a choice” She condescend.

Atem nodded back, gave her a large oversized work jacket and they ran.
