Bubblegum
The moment I sat down I knew in my deepest being that this was going to be the worst flight of my life. I had to sit in the aisle seat next to a young lady who was continuously blowing giant bubbles of coral pink bubblegum.
βHi maβam.β I had said when I first sat down.
βEww! Are you hitting on me!? Your like 50 years old!β She said with obvious disgust.
βOh no, Iβm so sorry I gave you that impression, I was just trying to be polite.β I said pointing to my ring. βPlus, Iβm married and Iβm not 50; Iβm only 31.β
βYou say that like 31 is young!β She laughed, giving me the side eye.
βAhemβ¦β I cleared my through, willing for this conversation to end.
βBy the way,β she added, βyou look ugly, I wouldnβt have been interested in you anyway.β
I stared at her in shock and almost stood up to leave the plane, but I didnβt. I wasnβt going to let some idiot teenager bully me off this flight.
βWhatever.β I mumbled under my breath.
βExcuse me!?β She said, turning to face me squarely and pulling out her remaining AirPod to lend me her full and undivided attention. βWhat did you just say!?β
βNothing?β I said, highly confused.
βRepeat what you just said to me!?β She said, raising her voice.
βI donβt know what you mean, can you please calm down. I wonβt bother you anymore. You can listen to your music in peace.β I said feeling helpless in this escalating situation.
βWell thatβs going to be impossible to do as long as youβre here. If you truly want me to be able to listen to my music in peace then you will leave the plane!β She yelled at me.
βI donβt care lady, I just want to read my book and arrive at my destination!β I blubbered.
βYou are going to pay for ruining my day!β She glared at me. βFlight attendent!β She called, βThis old man is harassing me, can you please escort him off the plane!?β
βWhat!β I said in defense. βI didnβt harass her, sheβs just making this up.β
βI donβt care what happened.β The flight attendent said. βItβs too late for me to do anything about this because we are already in the air.β
βWell then can you at least move me up to first class? I feel unsafe sitting next to this man.β She said, glaring at the flight attendant.
βI suppose.β The flight attendant said grabbing the ladies luggage and leading her down the aisle.
βBye!β The lady said, waving at me with a smirk on her face.
And thatβs when I realized that she planned everything out so she could be moved to first class.
βGen Zβs.β I let out a small chuckle.
