Moonlight

Elle one was 24 years old the night before thanksgiving. She sat on her bed with pen and paper, pondering the questions “who am I? & what is my gift?”

There was the obvious answer, she was beautiful. Passersby’s dared point it out when Elle walked the streets of Miami. Family members secretly lived vicariously through Elle’s stories.

Elle radiated sensuality and youth. Her beauty was beyond her flesh, for her mannerism was as charming as a falling under a love spell.

All the pleasantries of being acknowledged did not satisfy Elle when she pondered the questions “who am I? & what is my gift?”

There was something more to Elle, something most persons could not understand. All except for Billy. He was born William Boswick, but everyone called him Billy.

Love at first sight is a thing of fairy tales, Billy knew that. Nonetheless, when he first laid eyes on Elle he felt the desire to seduce her and make her his wife. Every step she takes is deliberate. The sway of her hips attracting all eyes to her. A beaming smile that magnetizes your attention. Her eyes, like looking into happiness itself.

Billy and Elle met at the thanksgiving party held by mayor. Elle was amused by Billy’s nature, he didn’t quite fit in with the crowd. Tall and muscular, Billy nearly appeared as if he was stuffed into his suit.

Outside in the rose garden, Elle noticed Billy standing smoking a cigarette. She approached Billy and gave him a sly little look. He handed her the cigarette. They shared a moment of silence as Elle inhaled the smoke and released it. Then Elle suddenly asked, “what makes me so special?”

Even more surprising was Billy’s answer.

“You are like the moon.

You shine, because others shine.

You reflect what you are given. A phenomenal woman indeed.”

It was undeniable what was about to happen, for desire was written all over Elle’s face. Billy leaned in, Elle with nowhere to go and nowhere she would rather be, embraced in a kiss began a love story for generations to tell.
