Nice piece, Julia! I really loved the line “Her musings bubbled over into treasures on loan from the mouths of dear ones”.
This piece almost felt like the narration to a beginning of a scene in a novel or film. I could imagine you building upon it and being thrown into some dialogue between the three women (or is it two?).
I got a little confused about the characters. The first mention of Elizabeth was mentioned a few sentences in. Later there were the names of Gwen and Ellie introduced, and I wasn’t sure if Ellie is a third person or a shortened version of Elizabeth for how it’s used later in the piece.
It has a good moral to the piece which is nice to see; it paints virtual and integrity as something respected and important, even in moments when perhaps the opposite was deserved.
Are these characters you explore elsewhere, Julia? Or were they built especially for this piece? It felt a little like you already know a lot about them and their morals.
