Golden
My eyes widened and my jaw dropped as I stared at it in wonder. It sparkled and dazzled as I held it in my hands. What was this, you may ask? Well, to most, it may just look like an ordinary yellow bow-tie with some golden glitter spilled onto it... But I know that there’s much more to it than that!
I came across it on one rather peculiar day...
I had told my soulmate, Amelia, that I was going to clear her old bedroom while she was at her work (as we’re planning to transform it into a gaming room for the three of us). When I proposed the idea, I could’ve sworn I saw her face change to an expression of pure, unfiltered rage (for just a second) before returning to its usual, dreamy look. It was an expression I rarely saw, but one that I deeply feared... Trust me, Amelia is someone that you would NOT want to get on the bad side of! After an uncomfortable moment of silence between us, she simply nodded before hastily grabbing her lunch and heading to work without saying a word (she didn’t even say goodbye before she left)...
Once she left the house, I hesitated for a moment before entering the bedroom. It was, at one stage, a beautiful bedroom that was used to proudly display many of Amelia’s artistic projects (she done a lot of sewing and loved to draw). Many of the pieces in this room have either been moved into the master bedroom or disposed of (she was very critical of her artwork, especially the drawings). The few remaining pieces that were left were quite old and had lost a lot of the detail and colour that they once had.
However, before I could even get to the art projects, I had to clear out EVERYTHING else that was in the room! There were art supplies everywhere, messy tables and craft boxes completely STUFFED full of things, most of them likely having never been looked at since the day they went in. While I felt somewhat intimidated by the mess, I knew that it had to be done. If we didn’t sort it out now, it would NEVER be sorted out (until we either died or moved out of the house). The only thing I was thankful for was that Amelia wasn’t one of those people that used pins to hang up their artwork (this would’ve been a lot more bothersome if she was, put it like that).
I started with the floor, as this was the worst area (therefore, would be the one that required the most work). I threw out the majority of the old art supplies, as most of them were just cheap supplies that had been given as a Christmas present from members of her adoptive family (Amelia never knew her natural parents, as they disappeared shortly after she was born). All of the other stuff was just set to the side (I was going to put it into the craft boxes once I had those cleared out).
I knew that this job was going to take several days, possibly even a week, so I knew that the best thing to do was to just keep my head down and try not to get distracted by all of the old stuff that I found (as that would only make this even longer).
The majority of the stuff on the floor (and in most of the craft boxes) was honestly pretty uninteresting. There were a LOT of art and craft supplies, with the odd old picture being hidden inside a few of the craft boxes... But then I came to the one that was decorated with a couple of heart stickers... It looked like one that Amelia had kept as a child, judging by the way that the stickers were haphazardly scattered around it...
I chuckled a little as I looked at the box before opening it (I’m her husband, so it’s not like I’m invading her privacy or anything). The box was surprisingly tidy and there was relatively little inside it. Inside it was one single photograph... And that yellow bow-tie...
I was very surprised to see something like this, tucked away inside a little craft box. The bow-tie sparkled as I picked it up... It felt like it was infused with some kind of magical energy... For some reason, I felt... Nostalgic (despite having never saw it before)...
