The Intruder

The noise in the basement startled me out of deep sleep. I shook off my drowsy haze and grabbed my rifle and lantern. Turning on the light at the top of the steps, I went down quietly so I could surprise the intruder.

My lantern created shadows that were a little scary. I forced myself to face my fear and find out who had violated my space, my home, where I lived alone with agoraphobia. This was not a good time for “visitors”.

I was surprised to see the fluffiest cat I’d ever seen playing around in my dank basement.

“How did you get in?” I spoke out loud, holding out my hand for it to sniff and decide to be my friend.
