Happiness

‘I think I just met the happiest person in the world’ Sarah tells her best friend Amanda as they are taking a stoll through the local park.

It’s a crisp Autumn day and most of the leaves have changed colour and have fallen onto the ground. As Sarah and Amanda chat away, the crunching of the leaves can be heard, the skies are blue and the birds are singing…it really is a perfect day for a walk.

Sarah had just been to the local bakery before meeting Amanda at the park gates. Everytime they meet, one of them always grabs two hot drinks and the nicest smelling pastries they can see before they go on a stroll around Hargreaves Park.

On this particular day, it was Sarah’s turn to pop into the bakery. She knows Amanda loves a flat white, so she orders one straight away and a hot chocolate for herself. The pastry selection is just as good as it always is and Sarah is feeling torn between the pain aux raisin and the freshly taken out the oven croissants. They both smell delicious and look bloody amazing! After a small debate, and being very aware that she doesn’t want a que to form behind her, she opts for two croissants.

Leaving the bakery with the hot drinks in their cup holders and the croissants in her back pack, she makes her way to the park entrance as she knows Amanda will be there very shortly. As Sarah turns the corner she is caught off guard by a lady who must be in her 70s. The lady is playing the piano. It looks like the piano has been set up, just by the entrance to the shopping centre and anyone can sit down and play.

This lady is playing ‘Here Comes The Sun’ by the Beatles and a lot of people have stopped to watch her. She has started to sing along too and she looks so happy and content. She seems to be enjoying every moment and you can tell she is becoming fairly overwhelmed with the amount of people standing around her now. People are singing along, smiling away and having a great time!

As the lady finishes up her piece on the piano, the crowd of people clap away and cheer. You can see how delighted the lady is. Then suddenly a man from the audience moves from the crowd and towards the lady. The look on the lady’s face turns from joy and delight to one of now shock and happiness. A few words are exchanged and then she calls out to the audience ‘This is my son, I haven’t seen him in 10 years and he has flown over from Australia to surprise me’

It’s such a heartwarming moment, everyone is smiling, the lady has the biggest smile on her face and her son looks so proud of her.

Sarah can’t wait to share what has just happened with Amanda and off she continues on her way to the park…
