POEM STARTER
Write a blank verse poem on a topic that's important to you.
Blank verse poetry doesn't rhyme, but has a very strict structure which builds a melody through rhythm. (One way to create this is to structure each line with the same amount of syllables, and the same syllabic stresses, like you might if you were writing the verses of a song.)
The Art Of Loops
I would hate to make anyone mad, so please, if I overstep, do let me know.
Or, perhaps don’t, for my mind gets the best of me sometimes.
Though, if you do not say a word, I will analyze your expression as I speak,
Running our conversation
Over and
Over
And
Over again.
Until my mind fixates on a new vicious cycle, sending me into a rest that cannot be disturbed.
Oh, but if you are uncomfortable, tell me please.
I would absolutely despise if my words made you feel any other way than neutral.
Because that’s all poets are doing, right?
We want you to feel something, anything really, but neutral is acceptable.
Neutral leaves no room for miscommunication or overthinking.
Neutral is safe.
