I've Found A Jewel!

Dear Diary,

Emma Bernhardt. The least popular girl in our school. She is bullied and made fun of all the time. And to be honest, I used to make fun of her as well. But ever since that time when the prank played on her got flipped, (do you remember when Emerson fell and broke his arm, and she, instead of making fun of him, as he so often did to her, actually went over and helped him. And then when he made fun of her again but somehow that didn't stop her from helping him?) well, I've admired her ever since. I've admired her strong will and extremely patient character.

Recently, I, the popular guy, started dating the joke of the school. I've spent more time with her than I've ever spent with any of my previous girlfriends. Just today I took her to an icecream shop, and right after we had ordered our sundaes and sat down to eat, Emerson walked in. He ordered a sundae and started walking out the door, but he tripped, fell, and his icecream went smashing to the ground.

My girlfriend, Emma, ran over, helped him clean the mess, and ordered him another icecream out of her own pocket. As I saw her walking back to our table, her long red curls fluttering in the wind and framing her short frame, a crooked smile on her face, I began to realize- I love her! I am the first person to see her as she truly is. Yes, she may be short. She may not have the perfect teeth, her wild red hair may look ugly to some. But in her, all I see is beauty. Her inner character shines out of her and fills her entirely just as the sun fills the earth. And where others see nothing but unsightly boulders, I've- I've found a jewel!
