The Guild Dissolved

"You can't do this," said Libra, "this is outrageous. We won't stand for it."

Taurus began laughing. Aries said coldly, "it's already done."

Virgo snapped, "we have to vote on decisions like that, you can't just deploy degenerate assassins without a majority."

"There are ... emergency provisions in our bylaws," Aquarius said, with a tone of satisfaction. "In times of immediate need, the war council may make decisions without consulting the entire guild. We are informing you as a courtesy."

Scorpio stood and addressed Aquarius. "You don't realize what you're doing. You can just sit down and negotiate with Ampyx. There are consequences of sending killers after non-combatants. We open ourselves up to assassination."

Aries snorted. "Cashel wouldn't dream of transgressing Anwyn. We could obliterate them in a heartbeat."

Tentatively, Juan raised his hand. "Would someone please tell me who the Witchkillers are?"

Virgo spoke, her voice full of uncharacteristic emotion: "the Witchkillers are are an offshoot of the Penitent, militant Urizenites who worship his wrathful, destroyer aspect. They sleep in coffins among the dead. They drink blood. They kill animals and wear their skins. They commit blasphemies and sacrilege to gain power. They are merciless, quick, and evil.It was thought they all died out, or were a myth. But Aquarius seems to have some ready to turn us into every evil we've ever fought."

Fuming, Juan stood. "There are moments where you learn things about the world and how things are done. And you realize that, you might think you're the good guy, you're actually on the same team as the bad guys. Which makes you a bad guy, no matter what you do. We have all benefited from the way things are, the way things have always been done. And now we're forced under the leadership of our minority of people who none of us should have trusted. This guild has failed."

"It saddens me to hear you speak like this, Gemini; you were so promising. Still, if we must bid you farewell from the guild, so be it." Aquarius said, with an odd smirk.

Libra shouted, "your reign is over Aquarius! You're done, that's it!" She slammed her fist on the table."

Taurus growled, "you all need to watch your tone and remember who you're talking to."

Aquarius raised his hands. "I have had enough of this. The guild is dissolved. Those who wish to follow my leadership may form a new guild with me. The rest of you are dismissed."

Juan and Libra left first, walking out of the hall to stand in the courtyard. Virgo and Scorpio quickly followed. Last to join them was Capricorn.

"Surprised to see you here, Capricorn," Scorpio said.

Capricorn laughed. "All of you, your problem is that you care. You need to stop caring. Do what makes sense for goals your goals and questions values, and let the rest burn."

"Are you suggesting we just let them kill everyone?" Libra asked.

Capricorn grinned devilishly. "No I'm suggesting we tear them down. You know that it's what we need to do. We need to strike them, fast and hard, and we need to take them out of power."
