Heavy Fire
Then it begins. Charlie ran for his life as shots buzzed past his head. Every step, ringing his head like a jackhammer. He dove behind cover and reloaded for a final time, unbeknownst to him. Every moment, every memory, every feeling rushed through his head as it rest against a large grey stone, The only thing between him and relentless fire. A crunch, a step, a charge. Charlie leapt from behind his safety and fired his last Hail Mary.
The enemy fire struck his stomach, then his chest, then his head. He fell to the ground, his heavy head crashing against the snow. His brothers point and laugh. His brothers point and laugh as the eldest throws one more snowball, right at his head, for good measure.
