WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a speech from the perspective of an abdicating monarch.
You could make up a fantasy world, set it in the past, or stick to modern day. Why is this ruler renouncing their throne?
Supreme Governor
Citizens of Coalharbor, I stand before you today honest and honored. We have accomplished great things, and I owe this community all the credit. It is my sincerely hole that the people of Coalharbor continue the pursuit of progres despite my absence. I anticipate you will find the leadership of Smithings Corp. enlightening and profitable.
My decision to abdicate my role as supreme governor of this community is one I weigh with every fiber or my being. I love this township, perhaps so much so that I hold you back. When Smithings Corp. requested to set up a trading post here’d I denied them against the people’s better judgement. When the Internarional Mining Co-op offered their drilling machines to our local mines, I turned them down. When our electrical grid failed and I barred access to our coal supply, I let people die. Lives were lost. I apologize.
[Hold for moment of silence]
In light of this disaster, I would like to welcome the democratic committee of Smithings Corp. as your new town leader. The expertise this group supplies in industry, economy, and the modern lifestyle should be life changing for you all. I hope you are all met well with these changes.
And, if you are not, I implore you don’t give up. Growing up I hunted caribou. If this taught me anything, it was that the things that live in the cold are determined as hell. We fight for our survival up here, us and the caribou. We have different ways of going about getting what we need, but we are fighters nonetheless. You people fought for what you wanted, and what you people wanted was to run me out of town. Well, here you have it, and I am so very proud of you all. Honestly.
Fair is fair, so here I take my leave. All love and respect for you people. You are players of the carnival game that we call Justice. May Smithings Corp. lead you through your greatest challenges yet.
