The Truth
How can you be set up for success,
The first child of a loving marriage,
And still, fail?
How can you still grow up to be disappointing
To all around you,
No friends to talk to,
The family doesn't care,
And your boyfriend acts like you’re
Fragile.
Glass.
How can parents not know
Their daughter is drawing
Scars
All
Over
Her
Legs.
scars that never heal
How can they not realize she is acting
Different
Distant
Broken?
The father makes her feel
Lazy and useless
The mother instilled
Insecurities.
She now hates her
Eyebrows, and
Hair, and
Hands, and
Weight.
She starves herself to
Lose
The weight
She can’t hold her boyfriend's hand,
Her mother
Called them ugly
Over and
Over
Again.
Now she just cuts to
Feel something
She is numb

Books allow her to escape
But the father tells her she is
Lazy
Worthless
Because she spends
Three
Hours
Reading
How can this girl be
So sad
So broken
So starved and bruised and scarred?
How can this girl be me?
