Our Secret Place
I came to our secret place today
To sit and while the hours away,
I thought of you fondly as I lay on the ground
And saw there wasn’t another soul to be found,
I thought and I dreamt as I looked to the sky
Wondering if the sun is what’s making me cry,
I stayed in the grass and the dirt of the place
Picturing the last time I saw your sweet face,
I listened to the wind and the bird’s solemn song
The short time that you’ve been gone is too long,
I rest in that field until day turns to night
And wait ‘til the constellations are in sight,
I stare and I weep realizing the cost
More than just you and your love that I lost,
Without you the sun shone with less of a shimmer
And the deep blue of the night felt slightly dimmer,
Even the sky full of stars seemed dead and cold
A place once so magical now hurt to behold.
