Excommunicado

“Never speak to me again!”

“Gladly!” I walked away, somewhat perturbed by the whole interchange. I remembered it vividly; it kept playing over in my head.

All I had asked was if she’d married her boyfriend yet. It was a harmless question, I thought. Just small talk. I soon learned I ‘d offended her; she actually thought I was judging her lifestyle.

I didn’t care about her personal life; it was a casual question without an agenda. But now she decided I had gone too far.

I guess I was off the hook for apologizing; it would be equally as offensive. So this was the end of an acquaintance. We were never best of friends. This was an annoying situation, just to leave things in the air like this.
