Whole World

“Shhh! Let’s try not to wake Mommy up. Mommy deserves some sleep.”

He rocks his little boy, swaying gently, anything to get the little whimpers to cease.

After changing his diaper, bottle, a quick walk around the neighborhood, and everything in between, he is a bit at a loss.

“Let’s cut a deal. If you stop crying, I’ll tell you a story. How about that?” He murmurs to the little one in his arms. Surprisingly, his son quiets down a bit. Enough that he notices. Now looking up at him with intent eyes.

Very awake eyes, but he’ll take what he can get.

“When I met Mommy, she was a complete surprise. Came out of left field for me. I didn’t like change in my life, but she…she changed everything for the better.” He glances at his baby and he appears to be listening, having completely silenced his cries.

Taking this as a sign to continue, he does. “I skipped out on my prom to see her. Was the best decision of my life. I’m not usually spontaneous, but Mommy was too good to let go.”

Reminiscing, he could almost see them, dancing, not at prom. Just the two of them. It was where they had their first kiss.

“I knew she was the one that night. You wanna know how?”

A little coo escapes from his son, so he assumes that is a ‘yes.’

“When I looked in her eyes, I saw my whole world. I never knew I was missing that in my life until that moment. How small my world was until she broke it open. And then she literally gave me the world. With you.”

That memory is ingrained in his mind. Hopefully for forever. It is one that he would happily relive at any given time. Because it brought him to this moment.

Realizing how quiet the room was, his eyes shift down, and he sighs in relief at his sleeping son. He would collapse on the couch if he was not holding the very human that could wake up the whole house.

As softly as he could, he padded to the nursery and gently laid his baby into the crib, avoiding knocking into the mobile or the wooden spokes.

Once his baby is settled back into his crib, he just takes a step back and just watches.

Part of his world is sleeping, kinda snoring, right in front of him. Looking so peaceful and cute. It’s amazing how so much can change. If someone had told him this would be his life a couple years ago, he would’ve laughed. But he wouldn’t want it any other way.

Now to climb under the covers next to the other half of his world.

(I watched this one TV show and I imagined this one scene happening. Because nothing of the sort actually occured, I thought I would make it a cute little scene of my own.)
