The Revelation
We watch movies about the end of the world
Dystopian futures filled with crime and wars and void of humanity
We read books about EMPs and zombies and horrors unfurled
Corrupt politicians, extreme weather events and water scarcity
We escape from our lives by journeying with characters in worlds seemingly unknown
Watching their trials and cheering them on as they fight the battle against evil
We sit in our houses paying too much rent and disassociate from being alone
And try to forget that we live with disparity at its highest and things that are far from equal
What’s ironic about the situation we’re in is that although we think it’s all fiction
We actually have more in common with these protagonists than we think
We use this entertainment to disassociate from all of same affliction
Watching their worlds crumble helps us forget that ours is about to be extinct
Being awoken from this dream will take more than one generation
We are living in our nightmares and that is the revelation.
