Raising Death (Chapter Five)

**Leora- **

Leora didn’t need to see to know she was falling. She had her eyes pressed closed so hard that it hurt. She could feel the wind rushing around her. She could feel the ocean approaching, and with that comes their inescapable death.

Then, at the last second, the wind changed. It was lifting them up instead of racing around them. She could feel it under her feet, pulling her to where it wanted her to go.

The second she opened her eyes, she was in shock. Maela had her hand and she was flying with her. They were flying.

She watched as the air guided them. Leora saw the flames fly out of her and Maela’s hands. It hit the ships as they approached. Each one went up in flames.

The screams filled the air and the Aerisian

cheered. They praised them and feared them. It was a whole new thing for Leora, but it brought out something new in her. It brought out a side of her she never knew existed.

She liked this. She liked the feeling of the air against her and the power she felt. It was demanding and lovely. It was amazing.

**Maela-**

Maela knew she unleashed something in her sister. She knew what she would be able to do. She knew how she could use it.

She felt bad. Terrible things would come later. She’d learned how to hide the decaying part of herself. She hoped that it would be as bad for Leora because it was only a little magic.

She didn’t want to think about that though.

For them, they didn’t have a lot, but they had each other for the first time in forever. And that was enough for both of them.
