Everyone from Kombucha has a mark to symbolize their rank in society. The more marks you have, the more powerful your abilities are likely to be. However, the day of Pen’s 10th birthday, she doesn’t receive one. Someone say your life cannot possibly change overnight, but it did for her. Her parents love for her faded quickly, her elder siblings shunned her and then eventually, as the days went on with questions about how many marks she received continues, her parents forced her out of their family home and onto the streets. Abandoned and ignorant of life outside of her parents guidance, Pen is forced to navigate what’s left of her life through deadly situations, misplaced trust and an oddly shaped gem embedded in her hand.
