POEM STARTER
Poison.
Write a descriptive poem about something poisonous, and its effect on its target. This could be literal or metaphorical.
Silent But Deadly
It’s a new system, hail the first exposure
It seems so much better, I must maintain composure
Feared it may be toxic, I’m relieved for closure
I was unaware of poisons without odor
I was greeted with so many friendly smiles, I thought, “Surely my interest’s at heart”
Often told I was bright so I wouldn’t think twice when they led me to roam in the dark
Nobody else I knew questioned the system, so when something seemed wrong, I didn’t dare ask
Signs of fatigue were dubbed scars of honor, we couldn’t wait for the days of our mark
They said free to speak, but they failed to mention they’re too busy to listen to voices
Free to express in their boundary of limits, we settled for the illusion of choices
When we were old enough to feel bothered, our tentative murmurs were hailed as noises
We imagined the touch from the poison, but alas it wasn’t that poignant
Nowadays the issues are more present
Diplomacy’s useless, we’re begging for weapons
Peers turned to examples, my brethren are threatened
But diamonds are only more impressive in pressure
We press on, progression’s the foil to oppression
To get what we want our attempts need perfection
We need to use passive-aggressive aggression
One step out of line and we’ve crept on regression
Trapped in a loop of suspension and tension
We beg for detention, instead
We’re trapped in a loop of suspension and tension
Hung out to dry in the end, our limits past stretched
Cause we’re trapped in a loop of suspension and tension
I thought we had endless potential
I guess that it ends when potential distracts from retention
Strive for education, yet applying their teachings is reckless
Learn how to live life is a definite death wish
Keep it on the hush
The mask is slipping, keep it on the hush
Just take some fun pictures, keep it on the hush
It’s not power abuse so keep it on the hush
Act out of line and you’re reduced to an object
And they won’t hesitate to keep it on the hush
