It’s me

Your addiction

I’m the one who will always be looking over your shoulder

Demanding you to give in

Taking your free will in my dark, cold hands and strangling it

I will always be there

Even if you think you’re getting better

I’m always one glance away

So don’t be fooled

You can never escape me

Hi! This is a really powerful poem. It definitely brings some feelings into the reader, especially as someone who has struggled with addiction. My feedback would be to to to make your sentences shorter, delete words that are pointless. Also try some more imagery, the personification of addiction would be more powerful if you used more sentences like “Taking your free will in my dark, cold hands and strangling it”.

All in all however it’s a really good poem!
