Reunion

Venessa enters the bar and spots Monica down at the end waving her over. She slaps a smile on her face and weaves her way through the crowd. They embrace tightly, squealing and both exclaiming how much they each missed one another. The bartender takes their order and they both sit down.

"Okay girl, time to get serious." Monica pulls out a small notepad and pen. "How are we going to plan this reunion. Can you believe it's already been ten years since we've graduated?"

"I honestly can't." Vanessa chuckles and thinks about how much her life has changed over the last decade.

"I cannot wait to see everyone again. Do you think Shelby Marshal and Zac are still together? I heard a few years ago they got engaged!" Monica fans herself dramatically. "He was such a cutie. I should have never let him go."

Vaness rolls her eyes and smirks, "I distinctly remember it being him that called things off because you were too 'intense' and then you told him that you were too good for him anyways." Monica laughs and nods her head. "And I still am."

Vanessa laughs with her and they bring up other classmates, wondering who married who and who got what job. An hour goes by and Monica is three drinks in. They've talked about almost everyone they went to school with and they haven't planned a single detail.

Vanessa reaches over and snags the notepad and pen and she asks, "Shall we finally get to it? We've got a lot to figure out."

Monica waves her hand in the air and dismisses her. "We have a whole month to plan. I just want to drink and catch up with my old bestie." Her words are a little slurred and she throws her arm around Monica's shoulders. "You know who I really want to see at the reunion more than anyone? Cassidy Shrinks."

Vanessa shrugs her off at the name. "Monica that's not funny."

"No I'm serious, V. Do you remember how weird she was? Always carrying around that notebook and how she always smelled like-"

"Monica stop."

"Oh lighten up, V. I'm just saying if she shows up in that same sweater vest and skirt that look like-"

Venessa sucks in a breath and cuts her off again, "Oh my God, you don't know?" Monica looks back at her puzzled.

"Monica," Vanessa pauses, trying to find the words, "Cassidy, she-." She can't get the words out and fishes for her phone from her purse. She pulls the article up and gives it to Monica to read. When she finishes reading, she slowly slides the phone back over. Vanessa can see so much emotion swirling in her eyes, but before she can say anything Monica stands abruptly.

"I think I've had too much to drink. Can we call it for tonight and do some more planning later?" Before getting an answer, she walks towards the exit and out into the bustling city streets.
