COMPETITION PROMPT
Write a poem on the theme of 'Lost and found'.
To Find Her
Have you seen her?
The girl that was just here?
Do you know where she went?
She was just here
I swear
But I can’t seem to find her.
She must have gotten lost
To a dream,
One she has had for ages,
To dance with the stars
And sing to the moon.
She was always wandering,
Ya know?
Maybe she went to the forest
To sink her toes into the
Untouched grass
And forage in the dirt.
She so did love the flowers.
She would talk to the wisps
And could hear them talking back.
They don’t speak to me anymore.
Or perhaps her meandering
Found her the ocean,
That vast creature,
And she sunk deep into the sand
Curled by the rocks
To feel the salty spray.
To gaze wistfully at a horizon
Untouchable,
Unattainable.
To soak in the warmth of a sun
Ever shining
Upon shells and the mist.
Oh! Maybe!
She is under a waterfall
High up in the mountains
With a sky that never ends
And air so crisp
So fresh
That your lungs heal just
from breathing.
She always wanted to live in
The mountains
With books
And with blankets
To sit by a fire
And warm her soul.
The thing is
And I hope you don’t mind
That I share this
But I think that this girl
I think she used to be me.
I think I am her
And she is me
And we are the same
But we haven’t been the same
In years.
You see,
I used to have these dreams
To dance in a moonlit forest
To lay under the sun on an endless expanse
Of sand
To escape to the mountains
But something happened.
I couldn’t tell you when,
exactly,
Or what,
exactly,
But things changed.
Those dreams dimmed
When reality
Set in.
But I think I could find them
Find her
Once again.
So tell me, have you seen her?
The girl that was just here?
Do you know where she went?
She was just here
I swear
But I can’t seem to find her.
I just
I just
I just
I just want to find her.
