POEM STARTER
'Backwards'
Use this single word to inspire a poem.
counting backwards
My head is bigger, bolder, new
My skin is cold and black and blue
The ice is freezing in my hands
Before you get angry count from 10
I didn't want to grab or push
To turn your teeth back into mush
Of course you ended up just fine
My days off the campus, only 9
My words were sharp like little spears
The kids will remember my name for years
The "quiet kid" as is my fate
I'm sorry for the ground you 8
I felt a rush, I had to hit
You yelled "Toro" I couldn't quit
Could I get into heaven still
For I was only 7, Will
I hope this feeling doesn't chase
I'll drown it in the river Styx
If anger tries to haunt my death
I'll push its head for minutes, 6
When I got back to school that day
Twas like the halls were rivers dried
They made a path for me to walk
alone at last, count down from 5
4 written notes, apologies
4 times alone, just you and me
4 paper planes thrown at my head
4 times you made me count from ten
3 phones were out, 3 flashes chase
3 pictures of your bloody face
3 notes I had to write from this
2 sentences I have to write
all on the chalkboard in bright white
1 set of 10 should be 100
