I Didn’t Mean That, Believe Me Please.

“I promise, whatever you heard was a lie-“

“I don’t care.” He replied coldly, interrupting me. “I finally trusted you. You don’t know how hard that is for me to do.”

In that moment it seemed as if the world had gone quiet. The wind that was previously blowing through the soft sakura blossoms had suddenly died down, and the small finches that were nesting in the bushes became silent.

“I…I know Daniel.”

“Well apparently you don’t.” He argued back, seeming as if he wanted to cry. “I know Jessica can be a rude, horrible person, but she is no liar.”

“And how do you know that!?” I snapped back. “Why would you even have the thought of trusting her??”

“Because…Adian was also there.”

“No- no you don’t know the context-“

“And he heard everything just the same.”

“No that isn’t what I was saying! They both came into the middle of my conversation with Daisy-“

“Oh of course it was with daisy.” He scoffed. “I was defending you! She was saying all those things-“

“No you were saying all those things.”

“I wasn’t, you don’t get it!!!”

“What would I not get?! I know you think I’m just a angry,”

“Daniel-“

“cold, alone,”

“I never meant those things-“ I said shakily, tears leaking out of my eyes.

“rude. Because you know what Lilly, it’s true.”

“Well maybe it used to be but not anymore!”

“There’s another lie.”

“Your sweet, kind, understanding, and an amazing person! You think I would say any of those things?? I was saying the person you used to be!”

“Well maybe I’m still that person.”

I couldn’t hold it back anymore. My knees shook, my arms trembled, and I collapsed on the floor, sobbing.

“Your not. And do you know why?” Daniel looked as if he was about to cry too. “Because- because I- I-“ I wiped my tears, trying to look him on the eye. “I…..I lov-“ I broke eye contact, and put my face into the palm of my hands. I couldn’t say it. Not to his face. I wanted to, I wanted to so badly. But I know what he would say, I know he would reject me. Why would he even like me in the first place? All my other friends abandoned me, and he was so amazing I don’t even think he considered me a friend at all. It seemed as if time had stopped, sitting under the cherry blossom tree, hiding in my hands. Even though it seemed to be so long since I fell to the floor, after only 30 seconds, Daniel had kneeled down in front of me, and wrapped his hands around my shaking body, and hugged me. I didn’t think it was real. This couldn’t be real, but I was glad it was. I got over my feeling of shock, and hugged him back. It was such an amazing moment, I never wanted it to end. Eventually, I sat up, and even though my face was red and tears streamed down it, I smiled.

“I…I’m sorry I thought you actually meant those things.” He smiled, wiping his own tears off his cheeks. “Your too kind and sweet to have said anything like that.”

I blushed, realizing what he just said.

“And… what you were about to say before…do you actually mean it?”

“Oh!” I remembered, my face getting redder by the second. “Oh well, um yeahhh….” I thought he would reject me, say something like he wouldn’t be able to agree, but instead, he replied with;

“Ok, I’m glad we both feel the same.” He laughed, his cheeks becoming slightly pink. Daniel was never one to blush or smile much, so this warmed my heart more than I thought it would. “Well we should probably get back,” he continued, “I need to go talk to Jessica now.”

“Ok, just…don’t do something you’ll regret.”
