Sunlight
*Dramatic groan*
“Angela, why are you still laying on the couch. Grab your things and let’s go!”
“No! I’m staying! There is no way I am going to go to this stupid camping trip!”
“Now Angela!”
Angela rolled her eyes and sighed as loudly as possible. This stupid camping trip was not something she wanted to do. Dirt, mud, sleeping on the ground, no decent bathrooms, and no wifi! No thank you! She dragged her backpack all the way to the car and crawled all the way to the back, raising the volume on her AirPods so that she wouldn’t hear her parents telling her how “fun” this was going to be. The drive there was horrible. Bumpy and too many turns, and when the four hour drive was over, Angela wanted nothing more than to get out of the car.
“Oh, Angela, isn’t this beautiful?”
“It’s just a bunch of trees and dirt.” Angela heard a sigh behind her but ignored it and proceeded to go further into the forest to stretch her legs. She heard a river nearby and decided to go check it out, it was better than going back to the sorry excuse of a tent her parents had borrowed from one of their friends. As she walked towards the sounds, something about the aesthetic of it all made her feel at peace. The sounds of rushing water mixed with the quiet sounds that only nature can provide and the fresh air kissing her skin made Angela feel calm and serene. Reaching the river, Angela breathed in the fresh water and sat down in a log near the rushing water. She didn’t realize how much time had passed until sunlight began touching the leaves and the water so that they would glow and sparkle. Angela was mesmerized by the way the sunlight danced around with the water and how the breeze whispered away her frustration. When her parents finally called her back they told her they were willing to go back if she truly did not want to stay.
“No, it’s ok, we can stay. Thanks for bringing me. It’s beautiful.”
