Little Ole Me
There’s this story that I’d like to share. A powerful story where two people come together again to unite. Long ago, I had a best friend. She was loud, animated, creative and just excited about life. One of those overly happy people. But as we started to grow up, I noticed that people were picking on her. Really for no reason, other than to just be mean or they were envious of her overflowing pot of sunshine. My best friend was bullied so much that she dropped out of school. She slowly stopped coming outside to play, and the times she did, she wasn’t herself anymore. If you have ever seen Monsters Inc. there’s a scene where Randal is extracting all of the color out of his little helper. Well yea that’s what I saw when I saw her. All the color gone from her skin, all the life and excitement vanished. Her pain was starting to bring me down. I was starting to feel what she was feeling and I couldn’t bear that. I love her but I have to follow society…..and oh what a mistake that was. Without my other half, I felt disconnected…lost….I felt a void within that nothing could fill. And trust me I have tried everything. All I truly yearned for…was her. After years of not speaking, I finally decided to find the courage to go see her. She still lives in the small little apartment, the complex we grew up in. When I got to the threshold of her door I starred at it for a moment. My heart began racing and my gut was twisting into an irrevocable knot. My breathing became uneven and I was being smacked with an intense wave of emotion. I gulped my spit, took a deep breathe and raised my arm to knock on the door. *KNOCK.. KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK..KNOCK* I stood there for a moment, not a sound to be heard. My lips started to frown, thinking she wasn’t there. When I suddenly heard locks being undone. She cracks the door slightly, only showing one eye. And when our eyes met I felt my heard skip a beat. She immediately opened the door all of the way, her eye’s as big as they could be as she just stood there silently. Scratching the back of her left elbow. We both stood there soundlessly, taking in the full sight of one another. She raised her hand and tucked her fingers inward, signaling to come in. When I crossed that threshold from the outside world to her inner (world) house, I dropped my things and ran into her arms. Bear hugging her so tight. She stood still there like a pencil for a beat. Then I felt her let go and put down her walls and sink into me, completely enveloping herself to me. We sat in this position for what felt like forever, just basking in the nostalgia of each other. We walked over to the couch and sat together. I looked at her and said “I will never, ever leave you again.” Tears filled her eyes. I held her hand tight, and I wasn’t ever letting go.
