please please (please)

“So?” Tei says, a bit demanding, “we can just rebuild it.”

“It’s not that _simple_, Tei. You can’t just rebuild a symbol taht people have hated and make them like it.” Tonu’s voice is now a little ways past agitated.

“Why don’t we _make_ is that simple? We’re in charge. We can make a better world. Everything will be easy.”

Tonu stared at Tei, his voice stuck in his throat. Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Please Please Please’ played quietly in the background, and a line of lyrics floated in the silence.

…_don’t bring me to tears when I just did my makeup so nice_...

The rest of the song went unheard, because Tonu exploded.

“Do you know how dangerous your mindset is?! Do you know how many countries have fallen into ruin and dictatorship because of people who thought like you are now?! You can’t make things simple or easy! The things we’re in charge of _have_ to be hard! We will never live easily! _They have to be so difficult that we will never let this get to our heads_!!”

“Why?! Why would we make it hard?! We’re better than those people were! We’re kind! We would never let it get to our heads!” Tei screams back, and then hesitates. “Unless.. Unless you don’t trust I would?”

“No, Tei, I don’t. I don’t trust myself, either.” Tonu looks down. “So, if you are expecting an easy time in charge, then you can put down your robe and leave now.”

“I have a say in this!” Tei was a bit quieter now, but still yelling. “I don’t want things to be _easy, _I want them to be _right_!”

“No, Tei. I’m of a higher rank. You are released from the council.” His voice was almost a whisper.

“No, Tonu, Please!”

Tonu turned and walked out of the room.

…_please please please, (please) please please please, (please) please (please) please (please) please_…
