No Lies
“No.” He mumbles again, his heart aching at the lie. He watches her as she speaks, her eyes sparkling as she converses with him. He gulps as he opens his mouth, “H-hey-“
“Oh! We’ll have to start packing tonight as well if we want to catch the flight.” She shuffles around the room, oblivious to his hesitation.
He sighs, giving up for the time being, “r-right.”
She finally pauses and approaches him, smiling. “Hey, it’s ok, I know traveling can be a bit stressful, but that’s why I’m here.” She rolls up her sleeves, grinning. “I’m an expert when it comes to traveling.”
He finally lets a smile spread across his face and he nods, laughing gently. “Yes, I know you are. And I trust you.” He takes her hand, trying to convince himself that it was okay for now.
“We should be gone for about a week…” she continues, making another round across the room.
He flinches. A week. He’d have to leave the city alone for a week. Without protection. He runs a hand through his hair frantically. “Shoot, I can’t keep coming up with excuses.” He turns towards her, distress evident in his eyes.
“Excuses…?” She asks hesitantly.
“Love, listen to me.” He comes up beside her, taking her hands in his.
She quirks an eyebrow at him. “I’m listening.”
He sighs, taking in a deep breath. “I’m the superhero.” He says plainly.
It’s quiet for a moment before she nods. “Yeah, I know.”
He blinks, astonishment flowing through him. “Y-you knew?? H-how?”
She smiles to herself. “You never could lie to me.” She chuckles. “You made it too obvious, dear!”
