Your character throws an innocent teaparty, but serves something that causes quite a controversy.
It’s Just Not Done!
Sarah laid out the stand with finger sandwiches, scones, and cakes. The guests ogled the food with anticipation as Sarah placed down some small jars of homemade jam.
“You have exceeded yourself Sarah, this looks amazing.” Sally Anne smiled.
“It looks delicious, but what’s that orange jar?” Thea asked curiously.
“That is marmalade, I made it myself.” Sarah beamed.
The guests gasped in unison.
“Marmalade? You can’t put marmalade on a scone Sarah!” Sally Anne shook her head.
“It’s just not done.” Thea tutted.
“I quite like it…” Sarah whispered.
“No! No! No! This will not do, not one bit. Scones are to have either strawberry or raspberry, and Cornish clotted cream. Not marmalade!” Sally Anne closed her eyes in disgust.
“Get it out of our faces!” Thea demanded.
Sarah stood there stunned for a moment before she began to laugh.
“You had me there for a moment!” She exclaimed.
“I don’t know what you mean!” Sally Anne looked away trying to hide a smirk.
“Honestly it looks delightful Sarah you’ve outdone yourself.” Thea smiled warmly.
“Thank you, let’s tuck in before the tea gets cold.
The three women chatted away and enjoyed themselves and although only Sarah put marmalade on her scone nobody kicked up a fuss because people like what they like and even if there is a right and a wrong way to make a scone the main thing is to enjoy it because it’s going to be delicious either way.
