We all let out a sigh when the sun finally came up. The moon still hovered in the sky, but the presence of the sun definitely cool the boiling hand under their nearly bare feet. It had been 349 days since everything went to shit. Angel had been counting. She was one of the oldest, aside from Mimi. Groups of people had congregated together when everything exploded, and Angel had been the one to find Mimi. An old lady, young at heart as she would say, had been alone in what was left of Angel’s home town. Angel had been stumbling around the barren wasteland for nearly 3 days, thirsty as hell and tired as shit. And then she saw Mimi. Mimi always tried to say that Angel had found her—so much so that Angel had started saying it to—but Angel knew better. Mimi had found her, saved her, took her in. Mimi took Angel to her little hideaway cave, apparently she was already been stalk piling what left in the area was edible. a tint spring still flowed slowly in the cave, and Angel ate some forest nuts and drank water from the spring.

Over the next 10 months, more survivors trickled into their group. The youngest was 6. That was Felix, a little boy that another girl and i had found crying by the ruins of a small building. The oldest was Mimi. She wouldn’t say her age, but Angel didn’t think she was embarrassed, she thought Mimi seized it as an opportunity to give the kids a game to play and a mystery to wonder about. Angel suspected she was in her late 60’s, early 70’s, but you would never guess it. She acted so young you would’ve guessed she was 29 about to turn 30. The group had been staying near Mimi’s cave for shelter from the heat during the night for almost a year. The world has become hell, with the moon radiating heat and the sun slowly shrinking. The land was a desert everywhere, the oceans where shrinking, most animals were dying off, and the survivors were stranded with no survival guide.
