Rabbit

It’s small. This little polyester stuffed rabbit; with it’s faded pyjamas and a rip in the armpit. It’s nothing special to look at. But behind those glass beads for eyes, is a lifetime of memories. From day one, this little rabbit has been there with you. From your first scream as a new born, through all the tears, laughter and confusion. It has shared your bed with you, sat next to you as you took your first flight, given you strength through your exams and reminded you of home during your uni years.

It doesn’t talk, this little rabbit. But it listens. It has listened to your hopes and dreams, and protected your fears and worries. It has even been witness to some of your biggest life events. It has been your constant companion (even now as you head into your 30s) and has always held a place in your heart and on the pillow of your bed. It’s tatty now. Your polyester friend. Botched sewing attempts have left scars on its body, and there’s a white mark around it’s neck where your name was once written on its hospital collar (proudly declaring you as it’s rightful owner).

But despite all the fading, the rips and the wearing of the years; this little rabbit, this toy will never see the inside of a black bag or find itself ‘for sale’. It has a place at your side and deep in your heart; as from day one it has shared your journey. Like a sibling made from polyester, cotton and stitching it is never far away. Always there, always close. Always ‘Rabbit’.
