When I Was Young

Standing on the back patio of the home I spent many summers with my family, I felt the warm blanket of nostalgia. I couldn’t believe I was back. It had been years since I last looked across this lake. The gentle snow-capped waves still pushed up against the grain-colored sand. The weathered brick sun was dipping behind the line of trees creating the illusion the lake was a shimmering Sapphire nestled in a group of Emeralds. The houses surrounding the lake popped out like little Easter eggs hiding amongst the darkness behind them. The seagulls were walking across the sand in search of leftover treats from the day’s activities looking like smudged eraser marks draining the color from the beach itself. Every color brushed across this view awakened a new memory in me of a simpler time.
